Upstairs at Steve’s

Upstairs at Steve’s depicts a complete upending of an outdoor tableau, set in a seaside landscape. The exhibition reveals a mysterious confluence of biography, history, psychology, and nature. Familiar household objects are strewn across the dunes, as if deposited from a natural disaster.

To achieve the dueling sensations of depth and expanse, the artist distorts perspective with strategically placed mirrors, prompting viewers to question what is real and what is illusion.

Dream House

Dream House invites us to contemplate notions of home and nourishment—safety and emotional comfort, the work of mental and spiritual growth, as well as abundance and fullness—through unique displays of ceramics, textiles, sculptures, paintings, and Simpson’s first-ever works in video.

Nothing Change Nothing Strange

“Palpably enticing” —Vogue

The result of an 18-month residency, this ambitious exhibition features an immersive sculptural environment created through Henry Taylor’s continued exploration of painting and sculpture alongside his first experimentation with textiles.

Nothing Change, Nothing Strange exemplifies many of the themes that run through Taylor’s practice and investigates the boundaries that have historically divided painting and sculpture. During his residency, Taylor collaborated with the FWM Studio team to assemble materials sourced from the Recycled Artists in Residency program (RAIR)—a non-profit organization focusing on the intersection of art, industry, and waste.

Architectural Forest

In the work, titled Architectural Forest (2011), Cave aimed to achieve a playground- like atmosphere with cheery, yet mysterious, qualities. As in the Soundsuits, Cave made this work out of a found, noise-making material: painted segments of bamboo curtains. Cave recombined the curtain strands and hung them above a neon vinyl floor to create unique, colorful patterns that shifted in and out of focus as the viewer navigated the perimeter. Architectural Forest served as a mystical setting for Cave’s performance at FWM, which incorporated dance, music, and ambient sounds from the installation itself.
